Liberty completes 72-bedroom Crewe care home

Delivered in partnership with Cheyne Capital, Alexandra Mill is being operated by Anavo Group to provide residents with 24-hour access to general nursing, residential, and dementia provision.

Liberty Care Developments, along with Cheyne and Anavo, has welcomed the first residents to the Cheshire care home, which sits off Crewe Road.

Designed by C Squared Architects, the Crewe facility features 72 en-suite bedrooms with 35% of the rooms to be available for publicly-funded residents, as opposed to private-pay.

Matt Floyd, development manager at Cheyne Capital, stated that this funding provision will enhance the long-term sustainability of the development by making rooms available to those “who would typically not have access to the highest quality properties”.

“The ultimate goal remains to create an inclusive offering that intentionally breaks down segregation and exclusion and we hope to make Alexandra Mill the blueprint for future inclusive care home developments”, he said.

Along with 24-hour care, residents will also have access to a laundry service and a hair salon on-site. Other amenities include a café, a shop, and a library, along with a game, club, and audio-visual room.

Avison Young advised on the proposals, which were approved in June 2021. Triton Construction built the facility.

The project team also includes Vector, BWB Consulting, Weetwood, Spectrum Acoustic Consultants, and Cameron Rose Associates.

Debra Lindop, community development officer at Cheshire East Council, described the scheme as a “much-needed and wonderful investment” for the town.

Ed Moore, development director at Anavo, added “Working with Cheyne Capital has been a highly positive experience from the start of the project and we are committed to delivering the social impact the home is designed for.”

While this is the first development that Liberty, Cheyne, and Anavo have worked together on, the trio is expecting to complete their second care home next year in Shropshire.

Andy Baddeley, managing director at Liberty, concluded: “This is a beautiful home deserving of its place in Crewe and will enhance the lives of those that stay here.

“We are now looking forward to delivering our next home together in Whitchurch which will be a really positive asset for the town.”
