Kier wins £28m Liverpool International College contract
A 13-storey 47,000 sq ft accommodation block and three-storey college building, designed by architect CPMG, will be delivered for the University of Liverpool and Kaplan International, as part of the expanding Knowledge Quarter.
The scheme, due to open in September 2019, will be located in the Knowledge Quarter’s £1bn Paddington Village district. The 259-bed accommodation will sit alongside the college building, which has capacity for up to 900 students.
Planning permission was granted for the development on Grove Street in February, which is the first project planned for the former Archbishop Blanch school site.
Kaplan International works with UK partners to help international students find universities to study at. Once students have passed their pathway course at the International College, they are guaranteed a place at the University of Liverpool.
Building Services Design is M&E consultant, with Curtins the structural design consultant.
Other occupiers already secured for Paddington Central are the Royal College of Physicians for a Northern Centre of Excellence.
The development marks Kier’s second project in the area, after it completed work on the Sensor City project earlier this year. Kier is also responsible for a number of projects on the Mayor’s Liverpool Schools programme.
