JD Sports linked with Kingsway shed
Thriving clothing retailer JD Sports is the occupier behind the recently submitted planning application for a 600,000 sq ft warehouse at Kingsway business park, Rochdale.
JD Sports, among a small group of retailers to report healthy profits this year, is paying £60/sq ft for the freehold of the building as it seeks to relocate and consolidate from a group of buildings at Segro's Heywood Distribution Park in Rochdale.
The 420-acre Kingsway is being developed by Barratt subsidiary Wilson Bowden in partnership with the North West Development Agency and Rochdale council.
The move will come as Heywood's agents King Sturge and Savills begin the search for a replacement for Next in the 500,000 sq ft The Hub building. Next's lease break is not until March 2010.
Segro has enjoyed a record 12 months at Heywood, securing deals with Hurley Menswear, JJB Sports, Eddie Stobart, Character Options and Parcelforce.
P3 Property Consultants and Jones Lang LaSalle are agents on Kingsway.
