J.P. Morgan picks Landmark for Manchester debut

The firm has joined Santander, HSBC, Starling, and Vanguard in Barings’ 180,000 sq ft Oxford Street building, which has become a hub for the financial services industry.

J.P. Morgan Private Bank has taken a serviced office suite within Industrious’ space at Landmark and adviser Khayyam Jumani will lead the firm’s Manchester office.

He said: “As Greater Manchester has become a critically important hub for innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity, it was important for us to expand our physical footprint and act as a catalyst for entrepreneurial growth by empowering business leaders, individuals and families through our advice, resources, solutions and global reach.”

Oliver Gregson, region head of J.P. Morgan Private Bank in the UK, Ireland & Channel Islands, expanded on the rationale behind opening a Manchester office, saying that the city region represents “tens of thousands of enterprises in leading sectors like advanced manufacturing, digital and technology, life sciences and healthcare.”

He added: “It is for these reasons and many more that I’m delighted to bring a dedicated team and hub of resources under one roof in Manchester, which, when combined with J.P. Morgan’s global resources, will deliver unparalleled depth of expertise, knowledge and capabilities for clients across the region.”

J.P. Morgan’s other UK offices are located in London, Bournemouth, Glasgow, and Edinburgh.

Landmark has proven to be a popular building since it completed, attracting a host of high-profile occupiers in the financial sector.

Investment management firm Vanguard and banks Starling and Santander have taken a floor each in recent months.

Xero set a new headline rent for Manchester at £40/sq ft when it took the top floor at Landmark late last year.

Joe Manning, managing director at MIDAS, Manchester’s inward investment agency, said the city has a globally recognised financial industry and that J.P. Morgan’s arrival ” adds even further weight to this proposition.”

“The opportunity for investment for financial organisations here is globally recognised and continues to flourish due to the expert tech talent and ambitious innovation across the city region,” he said.

Other tenants within the building, located off St Peter’s Square, include RSM, HSBC, Allianz, Grant Thornton, JLL, and flexible workspace provider Industrious.

JLL, CBRE, and Colliers are the retained agents for Landmark.

J.P. Morgan Private Bank has taken a serviced office suite.

Is that one desk or two??

Hi Captain Morgan. We believe it is seven. Thanks, Dan

Blackrock next, sounds like they should be in Manchester now.

I was hoping for more from this, very disappointing

I feel that this story is a tad misleading. If Morgan Stanley have taken 7 desks within a serviced office space then they are hardly picking Landmark for their Manchester debut. They’re testing the water with a very low cost, low commitment office solution. Indeed, if it not successful, there will be no skin off their nose. If the press wrote a story every time someone takes a serviced office, there would be a lot to write about…
