MIPIM 2023 – The time to prepare is now

This will be the first of many blogs you see from Luma in the run-up to MIPIM. With the conference a mere 5 months away, we’re going to give you the low-down on how to prepare and how to make the most of your 2023 experience.

I know what you’re thinking.

“Lucy, MIPIM is almost six months away and I just can’t dedicate headspace to it.”

I hear you and I get it. But take it from someone who has been doing MIPIM for 20 years: you need to start planning early!

But before you make a plan, before you book your flights and delegate pass, before you start planning what events to attend and which to dodge, and before you start sending off your marketing material to the printing press, you need to think about why you’re doing MIPIM, what you want to achieve and how you can achieve it.

A sizable investment

It’s no exaggeration to say that MIPIM is a massive investment. For many businesses, it’s their biggest marketing investment of the year, not just in monetary terms, but in the time you will invest in it. It’s all too easy to get lost in the spectacle of the conference. To drift through the many events (both professional and social) without your KPIs in mind. But if we’re honest, going to MIPIM without a rudder to steer you towards tangible benefits  is not a good use of your marketing budget.

As our industry is likely to feel some of the pinch of the incoming financial downturn, its important that our investments deliver the benefits we want them to. In tough times, we have to make our money work harder. So its more important than ever to make sure your activities live up to their purpose.

In short. MIPIM 2023 has to really pay off.

What you should be thinking about now to ensure a successful MIPIM

You start off by thinking through your strategy, finding a way to track progress and analysing how you make it happen. The kind of questions you need to be asking are:

 Why am I going to MIPIM?  

What does success look like?  

What return do we need on this investment?  

Whether it’s about your next big project, that strategic investment, or simply seeing off the competition… knowing – and agreeing with your team – what success looks like for your business, will inform any plan that you make.  

It’s the first, critical, step in making sure that your MIPIM investment pays off. 

Strategise efficiently and the rest will follow

Once you really understand what a successful MIPIM looks like for your business, you can pursue that success with a laser-like focus. You can establish what events you want to attend, which you want to showcase at, what promotional material you’ll need to bring, who you want to meet and what relationships to nurture.

You can turn your MIPIM into a valuable pipeline that will pay back your investment in dividends.
