Inflatable cinema screen for Liverpool Waters

Cinema operator Route 66, in partnership with Peel Holdings, has confirmed a new drive-in cinema for Liverpool is due to open on Friday.

Part of the Central Dock site on Clarence Dock will become an outdoor cinema for approximately 200 people.

The screen is one of the largest in the country at 20 metres long by 15 metres high, and will be held up on an inflatable support.

Ian Pollitt, development investment surveyor at Peel Holdings, said: "Liverpool Waters is the perfect location for this kind of popular leisure activity. To see the Clarence Dock area animated with many visitors will be a great sight and will provide a flavour of the future we are planning for the whole of Liverpool Waters.

"We will be announcing more cultural events at Liverpool Waters in the coming months building on the return of Royal de Luxe's Gallic Giants in July. We are keen to make use of the site's huge potential while we're seeking development partners to help deliver the long-term vision."

Lee Seddon, of Route 66, said: "Having seen the huge success of Route 66 in Manchester, which was the first outdoor digital cinema in Europe when it opened in 2012, we knew that there was the demand for a more exciting way to watch the latest releases than in your typical multiplex.

"We're really looking forward to seeing the reaction of Liverpool residents to having one of the biggest and best outdoor cinemas in the country and are hoping that this will convert even more cinemagoers to the re-energised and for most a new way of viewing their favourite movies that has already taken hold of the cinema viewing public in Manchester's hugely popular Route 66."
