Infinity gets ball rolling on Ashton social housing 

A derelict former warehouse on the corner of Stockport Road and William Street is to be converted into 43 one-bedroom apartments in a bid to address the lack of social housing in the area. 

Infinity Property Investing, which specialises in the redevelopment of derelict buildings exclusively for use in the social housing sector, has submitted a planning application to Tameside Council to convert the three-storey building. 

The Ashton-under-Lyne property was previously occupied by JT Griffiths & Co but has been empty for around eight years. 

Infinity intends to lease the development to a registered provider upon completion. 

The developer has reported “an overwhelming expression of interest” from housing providers. 

The social housing market “is being placed under mounting pressure” across Greater Manchester as the demand for accommodation increases, Infinity added. 

“The objectives of this proposed development are to alleviate this mounting housing shortage, while bringing back into a use a derelict property in the heart of Ashton-Under-Lyne.” 

Among those to have expressed an interest in managing the development are Express Housing and Resonance, according to the developer. 

Each flat would include an open plan kitchen/lounge area, a separate bedroom, bathroom, and private storage area. 

Plan 8 Town Planning is advising Infinity on the proposals.
