Housing proposed for Rossendale mill site

Rossendale Council has approved plans for the redevelopment of the former Albert Mill site in Whitworth for 49 houses on behalf of Leonard Curtis LPA Receivers.

The proposals on the 3.58 acre site, designed by Halliday Meecham Architects, include a combination of two- and three-bed properties with access via Albert Street, off Market Street. The development will also include landscaping and water diversion works due to the nearby River Spodden.

The majority of the site controlled by Allied Irish Bank and comprises a series of semi-derelict factory warehouse units. The buildings formerly known as Albert Mill were demolished in 2011.

MJ Newton is project manager on the scheme while Euan Kellie Property Solutions provided town planning advice.

Euan Kellie, director of Euan Kellie Property Solutions, said: "The proposals will make a positive contribution to the town of Whitworth and will lead to the demolition of the vacant Sunnyside Mill and Sunnyside Works buildings which have become the subject of anti-social behaviour in recent years."

Leonard Curtis Recovery and Allied Irish Bank will market the site to a purchaser who will go on to deliver the scheme.
