Housing 21 gets planning approval for Wirral care homes

Housing 21 has been given planning approval for £14m extra-care homes to be built at two sites in Wallasey and Bromborough, Wirral.

Funding has been provided by the Department of Health and Homes and Communities Agency and the housing organisation is working in partnership with Wirral Council and NHS Wirral.

A spokesperson for Housing 21 said today: "The new extra-care housing schemes will offer homes for rent or shared-ownership and will provide a way of supporting people over the age of 55 years old."

"The new scheme at Wallasey is to be built on the site of the former Somerville School in Gorsey Lane and the Bromorough scheme will be built on the site of the existing Mendell Lodge in New Chester Road."

The Wallasey scheme will include 51 one and two bedroom apartments and 19 bungalows, while the Bromborough scheme will include 49 apartments.

Both schemes are still to be named.

Beaconsfield-based Housing 21 will run both of the schemes when complete. It currently manages over 16,000 sheltered and extra-care apartments and bungalows.

A completion date for both Wirral schemes was undisclosed.
