Hollins Murray submits Prestwich town centre plans
Altrincham-based developer Hollins Murray Group has submitted an outline planning application to Bury Metropolitan Borough Council for the redevelopment of seven acres of Prestwich town centre.
The developer, advised by Manchester-based HOW Planning and Craig Foster Architects of Liverpool, plans to replace the existing Longfield Shopping Centre on Bury New Road.
The new scheme would include an anchor retail unit of 60,000 sq ft alongside smaller non-food retail units, which will accommodate some of the existing tenants. There will also be a 70-bed hotel, offices, restaurants, public realm and up to 36 apartments.
Jon Suckley, principal at HOW Planning, said: "The current shopping centre is outdated and ineffectual and the plans for the new scheme will provide the people of Prestwich with a modern and attractive town centre facility. All the advice is in line with the Love Prestwich Village Development Strategy that has been put together by the council, so we are confident that the application will be successful."
HOW Planning's advice proposed that the existing Longfield Shopping Centre and library should both be demolished to make way for a highly-sustainable mixed-use development. The library will be rebuilt along with a new seven-deck multi-storey car park.
