Himor adds to Standish plans
Developer-investor Himor has submitted a planning application for the second phase of Barrowcroft, a residential extension to the east of Standish in Wigan.
Phase one, a planning application for which was recently submitted, involves the redevelopment of part of Bradley Hall Trading Estate for new homes. The planning application for phase two involves the development of new homes off Rectory Lane. The application is submitted in outline, but an illustrative layout shows 309 new homes.
The application for phase two was submitted in response to Planning Inspector Kevin Ward's recommendation to Wigan Council that previously safeguarded land in Standish be released for 1,000 homes in order to increase the supply of deliverable housing sites in the borough.
Himor has recommended the transfer of Barrowcroft Wood, a site of biological importance, to community use as part of its plans.
Samuel Stafford, associate director of Himor, said: "The two Barrowcroft planning applications will deliver the homes that the borough needs and the affordable homes that Standish needs, as well as allowing us to improve the Bradley Hall Trading Estate. At the same time, we have put Barrowcroft Wood at the heart of the proposals and would very much like to see it become an outstanding community asset."
Planning consultant John Coxon of Emery Planning Partnership advised Himor.
