Hearings due into GM waste plans
A public examination will take place in the summer into Greater Manchester's plans for waste facilities in the ten boroughs up until 2020.
A pre-examination hearing is due to be held in April and a planning inspector appointed to undertake the full examination in the summer. If approved by the Secretary of State, the plans are due to be adopted in January 2012.
The plans name around ten existing sites for waste facilities as well as another 25 areas earmarked for future waste management use.
The future areas include Miry Lane Employment Area in Wigan, Ince Moss Junction Sidings on Cemetery Road, also in Wigan, land at Trafford Park in Trafford, Shepley Industrial Estate in Tameside and Bredbury and Whitefield Road Industrial Estates, both in Stockport.
Mosaic Town Planning, based in Manchester, successfully promoted a site owned by Stevenor Investments in Carrington for waste management allocation in the waste plan.
The 27-acre Carrington vehicle storage site was among those proposed in the draft joint Greater Manchester waste planning document in February.
Daniel Whitney, planning consultant at Mosaic, said: "If the allocation is confirmed in the adopted plan, it will help make efficient use of a brownfield and vacant site, provide job creation and enable the adequate provision of waste management facilities across Greater Manchester."
