Harrisons plots Great Harwood sheds

Plans have been lodged with Hyndburn Council for the development of 83,000 sq ft of new industrial space at a former abattoir site.

Filed by planner Connollys on behalf of applicant Harrisons Engineering, the proposals outline an intention to deliver 22 new business units at the site off Balfour Street, as well as reclad an existing high-bay warehouse on the site.

Members of the professional team include Barrowclough Architects, LK Consult, Civic, Bowland Ecology, MAKE, e3p, SCP, and landscape architect Square Yard.

Two existing access points would remain, the access from Balfour Street, and the access from Heys Lane that would give access to six of the new units in the southern part of the site, along with existing occupier Rishton Welding & Engineering.

The new business spaces would be built in blocks of two to five units, with no new buildings taller than the existing top height on site. A total of 108 car parking spaces are proposed.

As set out by Connollys, most of the site has been cleared, with the project tram keen to stress the sustainable location, bringing employment to a site within the urban boundary and on a key arterial route into Great Harwood, the A680.

The existing building is around 24,400 sq ft, and would be added to by 54,251 sq ft of B8 space and 28,621 sq ft of B2 space.

Project documents can be viewed on Hyndburn’s planning portal, reference 11/26/0137.
