GVA swoops for Deloitte projects team

GVA has established a project consultancy and management team in its Manchester office, headed by Barry Crichton, as it announced four appointments from Deloitte.

Crichton had been a partner within real estate advisory at the consultancy giant, leading its capital projects business in the North. His new team at GVA started work at the beginning of this week.

The other arrivals from Deloitte are Will Nightingale, Nick Wisken, and Jen Howard. Nightingale, formerly a director at Deloitte, has more than 20 years of project management and consultancy experience in the office, education and infrastructure sectors.

Wisken was previously an assistant director at Deloitte, working with Crichton on delivery of real estate solutions for various government departments. Howard will join the team later this month to provide project coordination and support.

The team will be completed by Peter Bates, who is moving across from GVA Second London Wall, part of the firm’s existing project management business. Bates has led on the delivery of construction projects including St Paul’s Square in Liverpool for English Cities Fund and the Greenquarter development in Manchester for Crosby.

Chris Cheap, head of GVA’s Manchester office, said: “Barry Crichton is a highly regarded and talented project manager, and his appointment underlines the strength of our ambition to grow our Manchester operation offering local expertise and an end-to-end service that can navigate a property through its life cycle.

“Barry will play a crucial role in the hard delivery of our clients’ projects in the North, and we look forward to working with him and benefitting from his expertise.”

Crichton added: “I am joining GVA at a pivotal stage in its growth and specifically to help strategically drive the development of the project consultancy and management business. This is a great opportunity for me and for the team I bring with me, and I look forward to working with the rest of the GVA team to build on its success and further broaden the business’s client base and service offering.”

GVA’s regional operation has shown signs recently of expanding its service lines beyond the well established core offerings. In November, it was revealed that the firm is in talks to buy How Planning, a deal that Place North West understands is likely to be completed this month.
