Government funding boost for Airport City
Manchester's enterprise zone is to receive £6m in government funding for infrastructure works in order to encourage tenants in the healthcare and medical technology sectors.
Manchester is one of four enterprise zones to receive investment from a £23m pot, the remaining part of a £550m package of support to complete critical infrastructure.
The funding for the enterprise zone will go towards the biosciences MediPark at University Hospital of South Manchester in Wythenshawe.
The funds will be used towards the cost of road, utility line and building construction.
Manchester's 116-acre zone was designated by the government in March 2011. The zone also includes Manchester Airport and the £800m Airport City development.
Kris Hopkins, local growth minister, said: "Enterprise zones are showing that our long term economic plan to secure a better future is spreading businesses, jobs and skills training across the country.
"Today's £6m cash injection will make the zone a stronger, more competitive business environment to attract new jobs for the people who live in and around Greater Manchester."
Bristol Temple Quarter enterprise zone, MIRA Technology Park enterprise zone in Leicestershire and Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft enterprise zone also secured a share of the funding pot.
