Go-ahead for 493,000 sq ft Deeside airfields warehouse
The industrial unit on the former RAF Sealand site was approved by Flintshire County Council’s planning committee on Wednesday.
RAF Sealand closed as a Royal Air Force station in 2006. The 27-acre site sits on the northern boundary of the airfields, located off Welsh Road in Deeside.
Developed by Commercial Development Projects, the warehouse will also provide 27,000 sq ft of office space across three floors.
The project is part of the wider airfields masterplan, which will deliver 2.4m sq ft of employment space and 725 homes.
The masterplan was granted outline planning permission in January 2017.
Architect BMS drew up the plans for the project, which also include a 323 sq ft security gatehouse, 215 sq ft pumphouse, and 110 sq ft electricity substation.
Associated parking will comprise 400 car parking spaces, including 24 accessible, 16 mobility, and 20 EV charging spaces.
There will be 38 HGV trailer bays located on site.
Barnes Walker is the landscape architect for the scheme.
Flintshire Council’s reference number for the warehouse unit is RES/000385/22.
6,500 square feet of houses? You sure? That’s just 6 new homes. Anyway, enough of the pedantry: this is good news for the whole Dee/Mersey axis. Well done to all involved.

The road marked A550 should read: A494. Hope they’re going to fund a new westbound bridge where it crosses the River Dee.
