George Osborne welcomes Cheshire Day in Commons

The Chancellor and Tatton MP is due to be the keynote speaker at Cheshire Day in the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday.

The event is being hosted by Congleton MP Fiona Bruce in association with Cheshire & Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership and Marketing Cheshire.

Osborne will highlight positive economic initiatives in the sub-region to an audience of fellow government ministers and MPs as well as senior business leaders and policy-makers in London.

Fiona Bruce said: "Our ambition is for Cheshire and Warrington to be the best performing economy outside the South East and the preferred location for business.

"Representatives will be highlighting Cheshire and Warrington's excellent quality of life, exciting business developments, out-standing visitor attractions and high standard of educational provision, all of which are available right across the county."

The Westminster event follows the unveiling of the LEP's business plan last month. The three-year blueprint highlighted major opportunities for Cheshire and Warrington – including the development of super-fast broadband and the continued expansion of the advanced manufacturing base.

Christine Gaskell, chairman of Cheshire & Warrington LEP and a director of Bentley Motors, said: "Cheshire Day in Parliament will allow us to inform key decision makers about all the region has to offer and why it is such a great place to invest, visit, live, study and meet in.

"With a £22bn economy, Cheshire is one of the strongest performing economies outside London and the South East.

"We have the right leadership, infrastructure, skills, transport links and development opportunities in place to realise our ambitions to grow our economy even further – as 'Cheshire Day' in Parliament will demonstrate."

There will also be a Taste Cheshire event in the Commons on Wednesday supported by up to 16 local food producers from across Cheshire and Warrington and projects supported by the Rural Development Programme for England.

Cheshire Day takes place in the Attlee Suite, Portcullis House, within Parliament, from 10am-4pm, with the accompanying Taste Cheshire experience in the adjacent Commons' Jubilee Room from 12.30-2.30pm.
