Fusion lodges 28-storey student tower plan

Sector specialist Fusion Students has submitted plans for its first Manchester development, a 500-bedspace scheme close to the Deansgate Square high-rise cluster.

The site sits between Renaker’s Castle Wharf and Deansgate Square, bordered by Chester Road, Bridgewater Viaduct and Deansgate.

Designed by Corstorphine + Wright Architects, the tower has been trailed as representing a £40m investment from London-headquartered Fusion, which also has schemes in Cardiff and Hatfield.

Warren Rosenberg, co-founder of Fusion Students, said that the application follows “months of discussions with the local community, stakeholders and planning officers”.

He added: “Manchester is a global university destination with a student population that continues to grow and our scheme will offer something new and desired for Manchester’s students in a fantastic city centre location.

“We believe the site is ideally located to serve the Manchester’s universities and anticipate that the plans will provide a welcome boost to local businesses, including shops, cafes, bars, and leisure facilities, from the support of students living in the area.”

Facilities are to include communal study space, a cinema room, basketball court, gym, and 24-hour reception.

The site was formerly owned by Beech Holdings, which acquired it from Knott Mill Securities.

love the Flat Iron look. Great design.

This should work well on this site. It looks a little different than the norm. Looking forward to seeing it built.
