Free festive parking boost for shoppers
Stockport Council, in partnership with Merseyway Shopping Centre, will be providing free Christmas parking to shoppers from 11 to 24 December.
Free parking will be available within Merseyway car park during its opening times, saving up to £7.50 a day for drivers.
The decision was made as part of the Stockport Boost initiative, which aims to help businesses and encourage shoppers to visit the town's stores and events.
Cllr David White, executive member for transportation, said: "We are very pleased that by working with our partners [centre managers] GVA Grimley and Merseyway we have been able to offer this additional free parking this Christmas.
"As part of the Stockport Boost programme, we are hugely committed to supporting not only our town and district centres, but Christmas shoppers too. By providing free parking at Christmas we can provide a significant incentive for people to visit Stockport and see the fantastic choice of shops and wide range of attractions on offer during the festive period."
As an extra incentive to shoppers, free parking will be available in town centre council-owned pay and display car parks and on-street pay and display bays after 4pm on Wednesdays until 15 December and after 4pm every day from Monday 20 December until Christmas Eve, as well as all day on Sundays in December.
District centres also benefit from free parking which will be available all day in council-owned pay and display car parks in Bramhall, Cheadle, Cheadle Hulme, Edgeley (except Armoury Street), Hazel Grove, Marple, Reddish and Romiley on Saturday 4, 11 and 18 December.
