Former Room site let to Living Ventures
Following Room Restaurant's sudden closure earlier this month, Living Ventures has announced that it has agreed a deal on the old Reform Club space at the top of King Street.
The 5,000 sq ft restaurant in the Manchester Club at 81 King Street had been run by HRH Group until the beginning of January.
Living Ventures is set to turn the venue into a 100-cover Grand Pacific. There is already a Grand Pacific bar and restaurant at the top of The Avenue in Spinningfields.
The freehold of the building is owned by The Tatton Estate. Bruntwood has a long lease and manages the building.
Sister restaurant to Australasia, Grand Pacific specialises in cocktails, sushi, and small plates, operating from brunch through to late night.
Other Living Ventures brands in Manchester include The Alchemist, Artisan, Oast House, Gusto and Manchester House.
The Manchester Club building dates back to 1871 when it was a gentlemen's club for Liberal Party members.
Tim Bacon, chief executive of Living Ventures, said: "I have admired this space for many years and have fond memories of it as Reform in the 90s. Its history is fascinating and having been a hospitality establishment for nearly 145 years, I aim to successfully continue the tradition.
"To me this is a perfect layout for Grand Pacific. The existing venue has proved really popular and exceeded our expectations so I have been waiting for an appropriate site to expand this brand. It will be a sensitive and complimentary upgrade as I'm keen not to lose any of the character which oozes through this space."
glad he said he does not want to lose any of the character!

This place is too good for an insipid Living Ventures theme bar and the associated brick-a-brack. Hope they come up with a restaurant that befits this fine building.
