Former hotel site homes gain approval

Planning and design consultancy Barton Willmore has secured consent from Gwynedd Council for the construction of 13 homes on the site of the former Harbour Hotel in Abersoch, North Wales.

Barton Willmore worked with the Design Commission for Wales to create a "high quality scheme that will be a positive addition to the village on a site which has been derelict for two years since the hotel closed in 2010".

To be developed by Cheshire-based Ashall Land, the scheme will include four affordable family homes that will go on sale at a 45% discount from the market price, and nine three bedroom homes for private sale.

Steven Grimster, associate in Barton Willmore's Manchester office, said: "We are delighted that Gwynedd Council has supported this proposal, and recognised the hard work that has gone into developing a high-quality scheme on what is a very challenging site.

"We are especially pleased to play a role in helping to provide several much-needed affordable family homes, which are in short supply so represent a significant benefit to the community."

Scott Ashall, a director at Ashall Land, said: "The site's location in the Llyn and Anglesey Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has required extensive dialogue with the Design Commission for Wales, and we are pleased that this process has proved fruitful. We now look forward to commencing work on the development shortly."

The team working on the project also included Seymour Architecture, Barnes Walker, and DTPC.
