Engineering consultants picked for Wirral community centre

Oldham-based Robert Whetham Associates has been awarded a mechanical and electrical engineering contract for a new Lottery-funded community centre in Higher Bebington, Wirral.

The existing church hall, built just after the war, will be replaced by a new 3,900 sq ft, community centre, which aims to offer a range of facilities, services, activities and events meeting local residents' needs.

The £1.1m project has secured a £500,000 grant from the Big Lottery with the balance coming from church members, fund-raising activities, interest free loans and other grants. Completion is scheduled for the end of the year.

Engineering consultants Robert Whetham Associates will work alongside Liverpool-based architects Weightman & Bullen to design and implement all mechanical and electrical services in the new building.

Energy efficiency, use of renewable energy sources, ease of operation and cost-effectiveness are all being implemented into the design of the project.

The value of the mechanical and electrical engineering contract was not disclosed.
