Farmer continues legal battle against Stobart’s airport plan
Cumbrian farmer, Gordon Brown, has appealed against a High Court judge's decision to throw out his objection to Stobart Air's £25m upgrade of Carlisle Airport.
Brown, of Lane End Farm, argues that there should have been a public inquiry held into the plans to create a new office and warehousing headquarters for Stobart and revamped terminal aimed at increasing flights to and from the airport. Revised plans were approved by Carlisle City Council and Cumbria County Council but not called in for a public inquiry. Earlier larger plans were withdrawn after being called in.
Brown also calls for a new environmental impact assessment to be carried out, saying the runway alignment was changed in the second application.
Newcastle-based solicitor Dickinson Dees is advising Brown. No date has been set for a hearing.
