Extra care scheme approved in Preston

Community Gateway Association has received planning permission to build 60 independent living apartments in Dovedale Avenue, Ingol.

The proposals for an extra care scheme north west of Preston city centre were unanimously approved at planning committee.

A spokesman for architect Levitt Bernstein said: “This project involves developing an underused suburban site to provide 60 new independent living homes, designed specifically for people over the age of 55 with varying care needs. To foster a sense of community, a number of shared facilities will be provided, including a large central courtyard, as well as more informal, incidental spaces. The apartments are designed to blur boundaries between private and communal space to encourage residents to take ownership of shared areas and facilitate interaction. Homes are designed to be fully accessible and wheelchair adaptable, with sliding doors to assist those with mobility issues and large storage areas for wheelchairs and scooters.”

There will be 40 two-bedroom flats and 20 one-bedroom flats, as well as 34 parking spaces.

CGA already operates two sheltered housing properties in the area.

The development team includes project manager Red Loft and PWA Planning.
