EE among first 4G providers

Everything Everywhere, the painfully named collaboration between Orange and T-Mobile, has launched 4G networks promising faster mobile data download in 11 cities including Liverpool and Manchester.

EE said the new network will offer data services "typically five times faster than 3G", the current widely available network. The telecoms company is spending £13.8m in Manchester and £8.9m in Liverpool. Seventeen Orange and T-Mobile stores in Manchester and five in Liverpool will undergo refurbishment to become EE stores.

The company is also launching improved fibre broadband fixed line services for commercial and domestic customers.

Jason Salt, regional manager for EE in Manchester said: "Manchester has always been at the forefront of media and technology, and there is a real demand for the latest developments. We are delighted that we are able to offer this service to Manchester as one of the first cities in our roll-out.

"From today, customers signing up to the new service here in Manchester will be able to download access a whole range of media and internet services at phenomenal speeds."
