Developer doubles up Blackpool self-storage plans
AIM Land is hoping to increase its chances of having proposals to convert the former Odeon cinema at Festival Leisure Park approved. The developer has lodged a second application while it awaits the outcome of an appeal over an earlier refusal.
AIM, previously known as Austringer Capital, had plans to convert the entire former Blackpool cinema into a 130,000 sq ft Storage King facility rejected earlier this year.
The firm has since lodged an appeal in a bid to overturn that rejection.
The developer has now lodged a slightly different version of the proposals with the council. This iteration of the plan seeks permission for slightly less storage space, 88,000 sq ft, and includes alternative uses.
Around 4,000 sq ft would be given over to units for food and beverage operators, while 9,000 sq ft is earmarked as trade counter units.
AIM has employed a fresh project team for the revised application, Savills is advising on planning and NORR is the architect. WSP and Bowman Riley advised on the original self-storage application.
