DataCentred signs at Sharp Project

Open source cloud computing company DataCentred has agreed terms to occupy up to 58,000 sq ft at the Sharp Project, Manchester's digital content production complex.

DataCentred already has an 850 rack facility covering 32,000 sq ft at MediaCityUK in Salford Quays.

The acquisition of the Sharp Project space will more than double DataCentred's rack capacity. DataCentred is due to submit a planning application to cover part of the Sharp Project warehouse exterior nearest to the Central Park Metrolink station with fans and cladding as part of a rack cooling system.

DataCentred was established in 2012 by Dr. Mike Kelly, former chairman of TeleCity. It received a £4m funding package in May this year, with contributions from the Greater Manchester Investment Fund, the North West Fund for Venture Capital and investor Jon Moulton.

Canning O'Neill advised DataCentred on the acquisition.

The Sharp Project is home to more than 50 digital entrepreneurs and production companies specialising in digital content production, digital media and TV and film production. The project is based in a 200,000 sq ft refurbished warehouse previously occupied by electronics company Sharp and offers flexible office, production and event space at affordable prices.

The £16.5m profit-for-purpose development is owned by Manchester City Council.
