CWAC agrees deal to reopen historic towers
Chester-based social enterprise, Big Heritage, is to reopen two 14th century landmarks on the Roman Walls that have been left empty for decades.
Big Heritage has signed terms with Cheshire West & Chester Council on a three-year lease and will take over the management of the city’s Water Tower and Bonewaldesthorne’s Tower.
Plans for the use of the two buildings have not yet been released. Dean Paton, managing director of Big Heritage, said: “Both the Water Tower and Bonewaldesthorne’s Tower are iconic landmarks, often missed by the public. They are buildings that have excited and inspired us for many years, so to have the keys – and to be shown faith by CWAC to create something incredibly special – is really exciting for all of us at Big Heritage.”
Cllr Louise Gittins, cabinet member for communities and wellbeing, said: “When Dean shared his vision for the towers with us, we were really excited. The plans Big Heritage have are incredible.”
More will be revealed about Big Heritage’s plan for the towers in the summer.
