Cottam Hall plans revised

An outline planning application for the further development of a major site in North West Preston has been submitted to the City Council.

The Cottam Hall application is for permission to deliver around 1,100 new homes and has been drawn up by the Homes & Communities Agency in consultation with residents, Preston City Council and Lancashire County Council.

A series of consultation events last year attracted 400 residents and generated 2,000 responses.

Residents' suggested revisions to the original masterplan have been incorporated in the outline plans and include sites for potential new community facilities, serviced allotments and cycleways to neighbouring Miller Green.

Deborah McLaughlin, executive director for the North West at the HCA, said: "Cottam Hall has the potential to bring huge benefits to Preston through the variety and type of new housing, community facilities, local transport links and high quality public realm.

"The masterplan has been shaped by extensive consultation with key partners and local residents, which has resulted in strong support for the exciting proposal that has been put forward. We will continue to work with the partners and residents to support the delivery of the Cottam Hall project."

The first phase to be developed will be the so-called Site K at Cottam Way. The scheme will deliver 30% of affordable homes and a wider choice of house type.

Approximately 1,000 new homes have already been built on the site since 1990. When complete, the overall development will provide homes of a wide range of type and tenure set in a sustainable environment that complements the area's natural beauty.
