Cornbrook regeneration blueprint approved
A framework for development around Cornbrook Metrolink station has been finalised by Manchester City Council, and is set to pave the way for a "high density commercially led mixed-use development".
According to documents put before the council's executive committee on Wednesday, proposals from landowner Peel include office space, residential, retail, hotel and community facilities, alongside infrastructure and public realm.
The Cornbrook masterplan covers a largely-vacant six acre site which is split between Trafford and Manchester and is bounded by the Bridgewater Canal.
The framework will provide a guide for future planning applications. It was endorsed in principle by planning officers in November.
The development of Cornbrook is intended to complement the nearby Pamona Island residential scheme. Pamona is being built by Peel's Manchester Ship Canal Developments and is set to contain up to 800 apartments.
In a report on the Cornbrook framework, the council said: "The new development must be of the highest quality and the initial phase, which would almost certainly be within Manchester, must create a critical mass of economic activity to act as a catalyst to promote and encourage investment and growth opportunities within the broader area."
5plus Architects advised on the scheme.
