Contractor appointed at former Littlewoods complex
Bolton-based construction company Artez has been selected by Capital & Centric on a £2.6m office refurbishment at the former Littlewoods site on Edge Lane in Liverpool.
The Bunker Building is the first phase of a six-acre redevelopment and will see the conversion of a 17,500 sq ft former warehouse into office suites over two floors. Capital & Centric said that it is already fielding enquiries from prospective occupiers, but the development is being brought forward speculatively.
The office development is part of the wider plan to convert the Littlewoods site into a hotel, 50,000 sq ft of business units and further 50,000 sq ft of offices.
Littlewoods is one of a number of projects being undertaken by Capital & Centric in Merseyside. In January, the company launched space at Speke Business Park and is also on site on an office refurbishment at 12 Tithebarn Street.
Tim Heatley, co-founder of Capital & Centric, said: "Getting the Bunker under construction is a big step forwards in the redevelopment of the Littlewoods complex, this building has been sat derelict for over a decade. We've appointed a contractor with the knowledge, expertise and architectural understanding that is critical to making this a success.
"This first phase signals the start of a wonderful future for the Littlewoods buildings and will satisfy the demands of local people, the architectural and design community and regional businesses who have long awaited the redevelopment of this iconic scheme."
Mike Banton, managing director of Artez, said: "I have a longstanding affinity with this building and it is an absolute pleasure to be once again involved with its redevelopment."
