Consultation launched on Crewe HS2 hub
Cheshire East Council has opened its six-week consultation on the development around Crewe station that could be brought about by the arrival of HS2.
The draft plans for C-SHAAP, the Crewe Station Hub Area Action Plan, set out an emerging development strategy and key policies that will allow the council to set a framework to manage development.
As outlined in Place North West in January, many of the key points of the consultation centre on accessing the station, with a new southern link road bridge between Gresty Road and Weston Road proposed to take traffic away from the station front, allowing better pedestrian routes and public transport access. Multi-storey parking around the edges of the action plan site is also to be consulted on.
The plans for C-SHAAP broadly break down into three areas: a Commercial Hub and Station Central, including a new business district; the North West Link, bringing commercial and residential development in the stretch between the station and town centre; and Gresty Road Gateway, examining access from the western side.
Cllr Rachel Bailey, leader of Cheshire East, said: “I’m excited at the potential and opportunities that HS2 will bring to Cheshire East from 2027. While eight years seems like a long way off, we need to be prepared and plan now to deliver the best outcome for our residents, communities and businesses.
“The Crewe station hub area action plan builds on our previous work for the Crewe masterplan. As a council, we do not want to limit what the opportunities are going to be in the area when HS2 arrives. We continue to work alongside government, Network Rail and strategic partners to deliver our vision for the area.”
The consultation is open for six-weeks, ending at midnight on 26 March 2019. Further details can be found on Cheshire East’s website.
