CityBlock starts schemes
Student accommodation developer CityBlock has started work on a scheme in its home city of Lancaster, along with its first project in Reading as it looks to expand its reach into the UK’s university cities.
The Lancaster project is on Penny Street and includes 70 en-suite bedrooms across five floors, with retail space on the ground floor. Titan Group has been appointed as principal contractor on the scheme, which is due for completion in August 2017. The Reading site, a conversion of an office block into 134 studio apartments, will also be ready to occupy for the academic year starting in September 2017.
Trevor Bargh, chief executive of CityBlock, said: “This is a significant milestone for our business as we look to extend our portfolio to include a number of other top university cities in the UK. Having already completed five student accommodation blocks in Lancaster and Leicester, we are confident in our ability to deliver high levels of student satisfaction, with a focus on accessibility and convenience.”
CityBlock was established by Bargh in 2003 and remains family-run. It is one of ten organisations to be recognised with an International Accommodation Quality Mark in the 2016 National Student Housing Survey.
