Churchill poised for Cheshire East approval

The retirement living developer hopes to build 45 apartments off South Acre Drive in Handforth on the site of the former Cypress House nursing home.

Cypress House, which provided 31 bedrooms but has been vacant since 2006, would be demolished under the proposals, which were first lodged in March.

The apartment block would be three storeys and the flats would be made available to people over the age of 55.

Planning Issues, Churchill Retirement Living’s in-house planning and architecture department, is advising the developer on the project.

Cheshire East Council’s planning officers have recommended that the plans be approved subject to the developer paying a Section 106 contribution of £300,000 towards off-site affordable housing.

Two previous applications to redevelop the site were withdrawn before a decision could be made, by two separate developers.  In 2015, Equity Housing Group submitted plans for an apartment block, and the following year, Wilmslow Property Group pulled its application to build 13 houses on the site.
