Chorley retail scheme bags two key pre-lets

M&S Foodhall and TK Maxx have been secured as retail tenants for the extension of the Lancashire town’s Market Walk shopping centre.

The centre is owned and managed by Chorley Council, which has already lined up a six-screen Reel Cinemas multiplex. The three deals mean that 75% of the 73,000 sq ft extension is accounted for, with four units remaining. The agents are Lambert Smith Hampton and Mason & Partners.

Gary Hall, chief executive of Chorley Council, said: “This is a really exciting time for the Chorley borough and to have two leading national retailers coming to the town shows that people are seeing Chorley as a place they want to invest in.

“We are still in discussions about the exact layout of the new stores but it has taken a huge amount of work to get to this stage. We are delivering what residents and visitors have told us they want to see so we can attract even more visitors into Chorley and boost the local economy.”

Rob Morray, head of property planning at M&S, said: “Our store will offer the very best of M&S’s quality food and drink, as well a café. The Collect in Store service will mean customers who purchase clothing and home items from M& can collect their products in store the next day. We look forward to sharing more details about the store nearer to the time of opening.”

Chorley Council bought the 34-unit Market Walk shopping centre from Orchard Street Investments in November 2013 and secured planning permission for the extension last year.

Enabling works have been started by Eric Wright Group ahead of an anticipated start later this year, with completion scheduled for late 2018. The £17m extension project covers £12.6m on the centre itself, and around £4m on associated public realm.
