Chester Renaissance chairman steps aside after two years

Shane Flynn, chairman of Chester Renaissance, will step down from the position later this year but remain as a non-executive director.

Flynn, formerly chief executive of MBNA Europe in Chester, has led Chester Renaissance for two years and will continue to be associated with the organisation.

Cllr Mike Jones, leader of Cheshire West & Chester Council, said: "Shane has been an inspirational force in Chester. His local and international standing has been a huge boost to the renaissance of Chester and has enabled many doors to be opened for the city.

"Shane has brought a visitors 'eye' to helping to develop our priorities and direction for the city."

Rita Waters, chief executive of Chester Renaissance, she said: "It has been wonderful to work with and be guided by such a dynamic world class business person. He has brought much to the city and the renaissance team.

"I am very sorry that he is stepping aside as chairman but pleased that he will continue to be an active member of the board. His enthusiasm for taking Chester forward is priceless."

Flynn said: "It has been a privilege to lead Chester Renaissance. I was delighted to undertake the role, which I did because of my commitment to unlocking the potential of Chester to businesses, visitors and importantly residents.

"I am proud of the progress Chester Renaissance has made and have absolute confidence in Rita and her team that in the coming months and years Chester will go from strength to strength. I am firmly committed to remaining an active part of the renaissance of Chester."
