Casey Group lands £6m Longford Park work
Having agreed terms on the contract with Trafford Council, the Rochdale-based firm will begin the renovation programme later this month.
Trafford Council said that residents and visitors will see work get underway in August on the construction phase of the ‘People, Place and Nature’ project.
Expected to take 12 months, works will include revamping the popular Pets’ Corner, gardens and play areas, as well as adding new seating and signage.
A centrepiece will be the regeneration of the Long Barn into a sustainable, energy-efficient, community space. The former footprint of Longford Hall will also be reinterpreted to celebrate the site’s history.
More than £3m has been secured from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for the project. The delivery team said it is planning opportunities for local people to volunteer and get involved in other ways during the process.
Helen Featherstone, director, England North at The National Lottery Heritage Fund, said: “It’s fantastic news that this ambitious and transformational project for one of Trafford’s most well-loved parks can now get underway.
“We’re thrilled to support Trafford Council with this project thanks to money raised by National Lottery players, and we’re excited to see its progress and how this wonderful green space will be enjoyed by local communities and visitors for years to come.”
On the Chorlton side of Stretford, Longford Park is described as Trafford’s largest municipal park.
Brian Knowles, operations director at The Casey Group, said: “This investment will protect and enhance one of Trafford’s most valued green spaces, creating facilities and environments that can be enjoyed by local people for generations to come.”
The redevelopment project was approved in 2023. The team was led by The Environment Partnership and Buttress.
Trafford said that the council and partners would endeavour to minimise disruption and keep as many facilities as possible open over the year, but some closures will required for safety reasons as work progresses. How this proposal got through without objections from the Chorlton nimby’s is beyond me. They seem to object to every other proposal in the area.

It would good if the entrance off Great Stone Road and car park could be upgraded.

@ anonymous 1:36pm – unless it’s been removed from the scope I believe the great stone road entrance is being upgraded, with car parking radially round the edge and the grass verges fenced off to stop the dangerous parking on match days
