Capital & Centric secure Lancs consent

Manchester-based property developer Capital & Centric has been granted planning permission by Pendle Council to build a 36,000 sq ft food store and 37,674 sq ft manufacturing facility in Skipton Road, Barnoldswick.

The new manufacturing unit will be occupied by Albert Hartley Home Textiles which has traded from the site for more than 100 years. The scheme also has 223 associated car parking spaces for shoppers and new public space linking to adjacent Victory Park.

At the same planning committee meeting this week two rival applications were refused for a Tesco superstore and Aldi store. The committee approved Capital & Centric's application unanimously.

Adam Higgins, director of Capital & Centric, said: "We are absolutely delighted that the committee elected to support our application as it provided the best overall economic benefit to the town. Barnoldswick does not yet have a modern foodstore and most of the operators have been vying to secure a site in the town for many years. Not surprisingly we've had a few calls this morning from operators and agents."

The company is targeting a start on site in spring 2013. The project was designed by AEW Architects.
