Bolton’s new council houses ready for tenants

Residents will move into the first council houses built in the borough for more than 20 years over the next few weeks.

Seventeen new homes have been built in Heywood Street, in Little Lever, to help alleviate a shortage of affordable homes.

The £1.8m scheme was built by main contractor Southdale and funded by Bolton Council and the Homes & Community Agency.

The development consists of 10 two-bedroom apartments, five three-bedroom houses, one four-bedroom house and one three-bedroom home, which has been specifically adapted for a tenant with disabilities.

The homes have been built to be energy efficient and will meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes the first council homes in Bolton to have this standard of energy efficiency.

The scheme also contains leisure space and parking provision, with shared communal allotment spaces to the rear of the apartments.

Bolton at Home, the council's arm's length housing company, will manage the new homes.
