Blackpool Winter Gardens hotel up for grabs
The site on Adelaide Street, which has outline planning permission for a five-storey, 203-bedroom hotel, has been brought to market.
The outline plans are for a 145,000 sq ft hotel, targeted at three or four-star operators, featuring a spa, café, bar, restaurant, and a car park on the lower ground floor. There is also the potential for leisure uses on the upper floors.
The site fronting Adelaide Street and Leopold Grove is currently vacant, and is near the grade-two star listed Winter Gardens. A £25m conference centre is being built opposite the site of the proposed hotel by main contractor McLaughlin & Harvey; this is due to complete early next year. A glazed bridge is proposed to link the two.
Planning permission was secured last summer on behalf of Kewdeal, which according to Companies House is a developer based in Loughton, Essex.
Savills has been instructed to sell the site on a freehold basis, and Tom Cunningham, hotels director in the consultant’s Manchester office, said: “Winter Gardens is an iconic destination in Blackpool, with its extensive entertainment facilities and excellent location.
“This is a rare opportunity to acquire an exciting proposed hotel development in the area, at a time when we are seeing the Blackpool hotel sector shift into the modern budget corporate market.”
Savills selling something in Blackpool… usually too la-de-da for anything that isn’t in Cheshire?!
