Base2stay Liverpool prepares for opening

The latest hotel in Liverpool city centre opens at the end of this week in a refurbished warehouse in Ropewalks.

The hotel is the second by the new base2stay group, whose other hotel is in Kensington, London.

The £14m hotel development, on Seel Street only 100 metres from Liverpool One, received grant funding from the Townscape Heritage Initiative aimed at saving historical buildings in Ropewalks from dereliction or demolition. THI funding was matched by contributions from Liverpool City Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund, North West Development Agency, City Focus and English Heritage.

Base 2 Stay interiorThe hotel was created in a former print works dating from the 1850s, the renovation was designed by Liverpool and Manchester-based architects Austin-Smith:Lord.

Original heritage features have been retained, including the original roof timbers with which the building was first built and which are believed to have come from 18th Century ships.

The four-star hotel has 106 rooms and is promoting opening rates starting from £49/room, including VAT. Instead of having a bar or dining facilities on site, each air-conditioned room is equipped with a mini-kitchen, and the hotel encourages guests to explore their surroundings by offering exclusive discounts at restaurants, bars and cultural venues across the city.

base2stay Liverpool opens on Friday 30 July and bookings are being taken online at or by calling 0151 705 2626
