BAM completes £2m repairs to Cheshire roads
Cheshire East Council has announced emergency road repair work has been completed on just over 60 roads in the borough, following last winter's adverse weather.
In March, the council received a grant of £2.04m from the Department for Transport, as part of a £200m budget allocated nationwide to local authorities where roads had been damaged as a result of freezing temperatures.
Cheshire East Council inspected large areas of carriageway, identifying those worst affected by the severe weather and deemed to be emergency cases. The council added that information from local residents proved vital in establishing which roads need to be repaired immediately.
In addition to the DfT grant, Cheshire East Council said it has invested an undisclosed sum into improving the condition of the borough's roads and footways. The work was procured through the council's contractor BAM Nuttall.
In June, the council announced Ringway Jacobs is to replace BAM Nuttall as its highways services partner for the next five years, starting from 6 October 2011.
Cheshire East Council will retain an in-house team that will work with Ringway Jacobs to develop the partnership and oversee the running of the highways service.
Ringway Jacobs, a joint venture between Eurovia and Jacobs UK, said it will make savings for the council of £1m a year.
