Avantage releases first homes under Cheshire PFI

Avantage, the partnership set up by Harvest Housing, MJ Gleeson and Nationwide Building Society to deliver an extra-care PFI in Cheshire, has launched its first phase at Oakmere in Handforth.

The 60,000 sq ft site will provide accommodation for residents over 60-years-old and will include extra-care health services and facilities. Costing £10m to build, the project is expected to create 40 jobs when it completes in January.

Oakmere is the first of five developments under the Cheshire County Council PFI to go on sale with 53 residential units available, alongside an IT suite, a hairdressers, library, Snoozelum, gym and village hall. Further schemes are currently underway in Ellesmere Port, Crewe, Middlewich and Winsford.

Once complete the project will have created 443 new homes. Residents can buy or rent, with shared ownership also available.

Countryside Partnerships is now working with the housing association on the project, which had stalled after the previous delivery partner, Lane End Developments Construction, went into administration last year.
