Anwyl gains approval for 138 homes in Cheshire
The housebuilder gained approval for one of its schemes debated at Cheshire East Council’s latest planning committee, while another application for 217 homes was withdrawn after being recommended for refusal.
The reserved matters application is for 138 homes at Victoria Mills on Macclesfield Road in Holmes Chapel. The 10.4-acre industrial site was previously granted outline permission for 160 homes in 2012, and contains various mills and factory buildings which have been vacant for a number of years.
The housing provision is broken down into four one-bedroom apartments, five two-bedroom houses, 20 two-bedroom houses, 46 three-bedroom houses, and 63 four-bedroom houses. Of the homes, seven are to be affordable, which is a 5% provision.
APD Architects designed the scheme and Avison Young was the planning advisor.
Anwyl’s other reserved matters application for 217 homes on land between Clay Lane and Sagars Road in Handforth was withdrawn in order to consider further information which had been submitted on the day.
This scheme was recommended for refusal based on the location of the affordable housing, with officers suggesting a “pepper potting” approach would be better. The proposal also suffered from a lack of car parking spaces, according to the report.
The agricultural site is 16.6 acres and houses one property, 15 Hampton Crescent. Two applications, one for outline planning and the other for the demolition of the building, were approved in August 2018.
The council received 16 letters of objection, which included comments on the impact on local infrastructure and services, the lack of detail in regards to access, and that it appeared “consulting the public is simply a box-ticking exercise because comments go completely ignored,” according to one local resident.
