Windermere Manor Hotel eyes 70-room extension
Operator Starboard Hotels wants to extend its 175-year-old Lake District site by 35,200 sq ft, increasing its room offer from 35 to 105.
The hotelier is seeking permission from the Lake District National Park Authority for the work, which would also see 18 apartments and staff accommodation built on its site.
According to planner Stephenson Halliday, the four-floor extension to the current hotel, designed by Ica Architects, would create 70 bedrooms and a first floor function room with an outdoor terrace.
The residential aspect off Rayrigg Road would comprise 18, predominantly two-bedroom, flats across three-storey blocks of six apartments, with a total of 36 bedrooms.
Landscaping and the creation of both communal and private gardens round off the proposal.
The 3,100 sq ft three-bedroom staff accommodation block is “essential for maintaining and attracting staff”, according to the planning statement.

An increase of 11 employees is expected to cover the expanded hotel. Car parking for an additional 33 cars is also planned.
Windermere Manor was built as a private Victorian residence in 1850.
The project team includes SK Environmental Solutions, Thwaites Tree Services, Aspinall Verdi, Orbis, Focus Transport Planning, Solitechnics, and SBK.
