Sports attraction lined up for Bury
Operator Hukd hopes to open a golf simulation centre at the town centre Link House.
Currently vacant, the 9,400 sq ft Walmersley Road building once housed a Porsche showroom before being repurposed and more recently used for educational and religious purposes.
The building has been vacant for more than a year. With parking on two sides, it sits close to a Wickes store and the Rock shopping centre on the edge of the town centre.
Paul Butler Associates is working as planning consultant on the project. In a planning statement filed with the application, PBA said that Hukd would occupy both floors, with simulators and a café bar on the ground floor and the upper level housing more simulators and back-of-house operations.
The target demographic will be families during the day and young adults during the evenings. The simulators used at the venue will be the Foresight GC Quad model, used as a training aid by professionals, according to PBA.
Along with PBA, Focus Transport Planning is also advising Hooked Entertainment Ltd, owner of the Hukd Golf brand.
According to the planning statement, Hooked has “developed experience in a number of related fields” and is “therefore well placed to install and manage an indoor entertainment venue” that will capitalise on golf’s growing popularity.
