Arriva campaign seeks reprieve for Liverpool’s bus lanes

Bus operator Arriva has launched a campaign aimed at encouraging Liverpool Mayor Cllr Joe Anderson to reinstate bus lanes in the city.

Bus lanes were suspended across Liverpool at the end of October pending a nine month review of the impact on traffic flow.

Arriva says it will highlight the issue to bus customers in the coming months and is urging customers to sign a petition stating that they "agree that bus lanes are important for Liverpool".

An Arriva spokesman said it wants to highlight the issue to customers on buses and that it will publicise the petition over the coming months to allow people to demonstrate their support.

During the first six months of the trial the city council will accept feedback from individuals and organisations during a formal consultation exercise.

The council is also considering alternatives to bus lanes, such as HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes to reduce traffic congestion; and Red Routes, on which vehicles are not permitted to stop, extending to stopping for loading or unloading, and to boarding or alighting from a vehicle except for licensed taxis and blue badge holders.
