Administrators appointed at Liverpool subcontractor

Liverpool drylining contractor Cull & Griffiths, which has worked on projects in Merseyside including the Museum of Liverpool, the Capital Building, and East Float Mill, has called in administrators.

The company, based in West Derby, employs 23 people and had a turnover of £4m for the year to February 2018.

However, following the loss of some key contracts and competition in the market, the company has been forced to call in administrators, with Paul Stanley and Paul Barber of Begbies Traynor appointed as joint administrators.

The family business was founded by Eric Cull in 1971 and focussed on plastering, drylining, and partitioning; following Cull’s death, the company was taken over by his son Eric Cull Jr and William Griffiths.

Outside Liverpool, the company had also worked on Parkview Primary School in Miles Platting, Manchester, with main contractor Bramall Construction; and three student accommodation towers in Leeds for Downing Construction.

Other clients the company has worked with include Laing O’Rourke, Pochins, and Galliford Try.

Paul Stanley of Begbies Traynor said: “This is an historic family business in Liverpool that delivered many successful projects since it was founded in 1971.

“Unfortunately, the business was affected by the loss of a couple of key contracts and stiff competition in the marketplace. After examining all options, the directors were faced with no choice other than to place the company into administration. We are engaging with creditors and will update interested parties on progress.”
