Peel returns to full house with Range deal

Home, leisure and garden retailer The Range has agreed terms with Peel Land & Property to take the former Toys R Us unit at Stockport Retail Park.

In addition to occupying the 44,000 sq ft unit, the South West-headquartered Range intends to extend into a further 10,000 sq ft of space to the rear of the building, to provide a larger format store alongside a garden centre.

The deal returns the site, between Stockport town centre and junction 27 of the M60, to full occupancy. Other tenants include Dunelm Mill, TK Maxx, Wilko and Matalan.

Roger Wheeldon, development manager at Peel L&P, said: “The Range superstore coming to Stockport Retail Park is testament to the Peel Retail Parks philosophy, to continuously improve the offer for our customers with a diverse line up of retailers through re-investment into our retail parks portfolio.”

Owner and founder of The Range Chris Dawson said: “Stockport Retail Park provides an ideal location for a new branch of The Range, with strong footfall and a varied retailer line-up. We’re confident the new store will be hugely popular. The new store will create 80 new jobs for the local area.”

Peel is to invest in an improvement programme at the site, including new illuminated tenant signage, plus a full review of the pay and display car park systems to improve usability for customers. The improvement follows the investment in new LED lighting and CCTV systems, installed during 2017 and 2018.
