Knauf agrees £10m deal with Veolia

Mineral wool insulation manufacturer, Knauf Insulation, has entered into a long-term contract with Veolia, to build and manage a 73,300 sq ft glass recycling facility alongside Knauf Insulation’s existing factory in St Helens.

Described as the ‘first of its kind’ by Knauf Insulation, the glass facility will be constructed and operated by Veolia, the resource management company which aims to complete the project by the end of this year.

Veolia will provide Knauf Insulation with “a stable supply of high quality recycled glass from packaging, which is a key raw material used to manufacture energy-saving insulation products. This end-to-end process supports the strategies of both companies in regards to sustainability, recycling and preserving scarce raw materials.”

John Sinfield, managing director at Knauf Insulation Northern Europe, said: “The construction of the new facility will help grow the St Helens’ economy by creating permanent jobs and using local firms to complete its construction.

And, given recent building product shortages impacting the construction sector, the announcement also highlights our commitment to proactively working to safeguard our supply.”
